MANAGERS’ MESSAGE:

WELCOME BACK SEASONAL RESIDENTS & RETURNING RVER’S (8 RV spaces reserved for Nov.) Hans & I look forward to getting acquainted with everyone! If we can be of any assistance, please let us know.

 

TIDBITS:

Desert View Has a New Website …www.desertview55.com is the newaddress if you want to check it out!  Hans has designed this new & improved website which he will continually update – it is a “work in progress”. Great job and kudos to Hans!

 

November Birthday Party … cake and ice cream for all residents in the clubhouse recreation room on Friday, November 22nd at 1 p.m. Hope to see youthere!

 

HOA Happenings … be sure to check the monthly calendar prepared by Paul Frazier so you don’t miss any scheduled activities!

 

Pool Hours … please don’t go to the pool area before 7:00 a.m. – we have cleaning to do before you come in! Please leave the pool area by 9:00 p.m. – we want to lock up on time and get our beauty sleep! Gracias!

 

Resident Mail Slots … in the library (“blue room”) will NOT be used for newsletters and rent statements as previously stated. For your convenience, we will continue to deliver rent statements & newsletters to residents.

 

Pick-Up Dog Poop … inside the park and outside of our front gates! Remember that other residents walk that way also.

WHAT IS NOVEMBER?

RECIPE OF THE MONTH: “Leek, Bacon, & Potato Soup”

Ingredients:6 slices thick-cut bacon, cut into 1 inch pcs.

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped

2 large carrots, peeled & sliced

2 leeks, white & pale green parts, sliced thin

4 cups chicken broth

4 cups peeled, diced potatoes (about 3 med.)

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 ¼ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:

In a large deep pot, cook bacon on med-high heat until crisp. Drain on paper towels. Discard grease & wipe out pan.

In same pan, heat oil on med-high heat. Add onion & cook for 2 min. Add carrots & leeks, cook for 2 more min. Add broth, potatoes & cayenne. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to med-low; simmer, covered for 20-25 min. until potatoes are tender.

Take soup off heat. Stir in bacon and 1 cup of the cheese. Serve, garnishing with additional cheese if desired.

MANAGERS’ MESSAGE:

On behalf of Desert View residents, Hans & I want to thank our owners, The Conway Family, for the wonderful new flooring in the recreation room. It was a great choice and looks really good! Also, we express our sincere appreciation to the Conway’s for being so agreeable to our various requests for clubhouse area improvements – we do realize the expenses incurred.

Reminder … please contact senders of your mail and ask them to update your mailing address to include your space #. The office is receiving many pieces of mail with no space #’s! Thank you.

Resident Mail Slots … in the library (“blue room”) will be used beginning with the month of November. We will deliver monthly newsletters and rent statements to your mail slot instead of your home so please remember to check there if you want your rent statement and newsletter early. Otherwise, just pick them up at the rent window when you pay.

Park Directory & Display Board Directory … are being updated by Paul Frazier and will be completed in the near future. Thanks Paul!

RECIPE OF THE MONTH:

PUMPKIN CRISP”

1 can (15oz) pumpkin 1 box yellow cake mix

1 cup evaporated milk 1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup sugar 1 cup butter, melted

1 tsp. vanilla extract real whipped cream (optional)

½ tsp. ground cinnamon Ground nutmeg (optional)

Stir together first 5 ingredients. Pour into a lightly greased 13×9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle cake mix evenly over pumpkin mixture, sprinkle evenly with pecans. Drizzle butter evenly over pecans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 60-65 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature with whipped cream. If desired, sprinkle with nutmeg. Makes 8-10 servings.
