FATHERS’ DAY QUOTES:
“I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren’t trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom.” ~Umberto Eco

“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person – he believed in me.” ~ Jim Valvano

“A father doesn’t tell you that he loves you. He shows you.” ~ Dimitri the Stoneheart

Remembering my Dad with a poem he wrote to me when I was a young Lana:
“So you’ve passed the fifth and moved on down the line,
In your studies you sure do fine,
And in your own little special ways, you trouble me from day to day,
But you’re my own little girl and I love you swell,
Just be good and do real well,
Nobody will ever know your daddy works at Shell!”
~Delbert Henson (1920-2005)

WHAT IS JUNE?

June is the sixth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars and one of four months with a length of 30 days. Happy Fathers’ Day to our Dad’s!

What to Do If the Power goes out in the summertime (Ca.Gov)

There are many things that can cause a power outage during warmer months. It could be that a car accident has taken out the power lines in the neighborhood, or it’s some other man-made problem. It could be an animal shorting out the power lines. Or, it could be bad weather. Whatever the cause, there is no need to panic.

The first thing to do is determine whether you are the only one without power. If you know where your fuse box is, check for tripped switches or blown fuses. If that’s the problem, reset the breaker or replace the fuse. If the problem is more widespread, call your local electric company.

Sometimes a forced power outage is created to maintain the integrity of the entire electricity grid. A “rotational” or “rolling blackout” is a controlled event that occurs in the event of a “Stage 3 electricity emergency.” In this case, the electricity should come back on within 30-90 minutes. Until then, stay in the coolest part of the house. If you are outside, move indoors.

Keep these tips in mind:

Unless there is an emergency, do not call 911. That number should only be used if there is an emergency or someone is in danger.

If there are downed power lines, don’t go near them. Keep flashlights handy. To avoid a power surge when the electricity returns, turn off computers, TV’s, stereos, & other unnecessary electronic equipment at the power strip.

Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Dress to stay cool – wear layers that can be removed if you get hot. Avoid opening your refrigerator & freezer as much as possible. Food inside should stay cold for hours if the door is left closed.

If you’re hot, take a cool shower. If you have a pool, it’s time to take a dip.

Check on elderly neighbors or those who may have medical conditions or use medical equipment that operates on electricity.

MEMOREUM:

We offer our heartfelt condolences to Stewart McLeod in the loss of his wife Margaret. Her sudden passing was such a shock for Stewart and the family as she was preparing a family meal in their Desert View home at the time. Margaret & Stewart have owned a home here since 2003. We send our love and best wishes to Stewart and the family.

TIDBITS:

Park Activities and Sign-up Sheets … Bobbi Klarich posts everything in the Desert View monthly calendar and on the bulletin board at the clubhouse – looks like another month full of fun activities! Thanks, Bobbi, for your time and hard work.

February Birthday Party … everyone is invited to our monthly birthday parties so join us for cake and ice cream! Please join us Friday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m.

Next Monthly Reading of Mobile Home Meters … is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th. It is your responsibility to ensure that we have access to your meters!

WHAT IS FEBRUARY?

February is the second month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. It’s the shortest month and the only month with fewer than 30 days. The month has 28 days in common years or 29 days in leap years.

Zodiac Signs – are Aquarius (until February 18) and Pisces (February 19 forward).

Birthstones – is the amethyst. It symbolizes piety, humility, spiritual wisdom, and sincerity.

Flowers – are the violet and the common primrose.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY TO EVERYONE!

Valentine’s Sayings:

Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you. But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl’s empty and so is your head.

Kind, intelligent, loving and hot – this describes everything you are not.

I want to feel your sweet embrace, but please don’t take that paper bag off of your face.

The most effective way to remember your wife’s birthday is to forget it once.

A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you can be sure of one thing: either the car is new or the wife.

You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back.

MANAGERS’ MESSAGE:

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! Thanks to our great residents & RVer’s for making Desert View such a great place! Also, a sincere thanks to the Conway Family (park owners) for caring about residents and caring about how the park is maintained. Little things they do may go unnoticed but we want to acknowledge their thoughtfulness each year by selecting a few residents who have had a difficult year to receive a rent discount in January – this is referred to as “Holiday Cheer”. We appreciate also their donation of turkeys for our Thanksgiving dinner and hams for our Christmas dinner!

Welcome back seasonal residents and RVer’s! We are happy to see familiar faces again and new faces are always welcome here! If there is anything we can do (within reason) to make your stay at Desert View more comfortable, please let us know! Bobbi Klarich has planned many activities for you and her efforts are greatly appreciated! Many thanks to Bobbi and others who work hard to offer fun things to do for our residents and guests.

Note: Please direct any questions regarding Desert View Rules and Regulations, including the application process to the Park Owners at the following address: Conway’s, P.O. Box 760, Alpine, CA 91903. Thank you!
